Own That writer's block!

As a self-taught writer, I definitely experience writer's block and feel stuck sometimes.

Most writers have ways to get themselves unstuck. I love hearing how others do it, so I thought I’d share four approaches that always work for me - maybe one will help you too.

1. Meditate.

Not for long but by closing my eyes and taking a number of slow breaths; the relaxation brings about ideas, a word, a scene, a character trait, a story point, and sends me back to the computer.

2. Speak directly to my subconscious.

While I’m sitting quietly, I’ll say to myself: “I am open to receive.” Sounds a little out there, but it works. More often than not, a solution pops up.

3. Listen to inspiration.

If my energy’s low, I’ll turn on a motivational podcast, a YouTube video, or a Masterclass chapter. They remind me why I write and help me push through.

4. Music.

I do love music (though not always the kind my teen son enjoys!) Using my creativity by playing my guitar is another wonderful way for me to let new ideas flow.

If any of this resonates with you, give it a try and tell me how it goes.

Keep writing. Keep creating.
